Item Analysis of Host Country Characteristics That Determine Foreign Direct Investment Inflow: The Case of Ethiopia (Time Series Data Analysis From 1992 - 2021)(A.A.U, 2023-06-03) Abdi Derese; Hailemariam G. (Ph.D)This research undertaking attempted to identify host country characteristics that determine Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflow to Ethiopia by analyzing time series data that covered three decades (1992-2021). Data was obtained from World Bank’s World Development Indicators. The theoretical and empirical review was conducted and market size, macroeconomic stability, human capital, level of infrastructure, trade openness, and financial health were identified as factors that are most associated with FDI inflow to Ethiopia and developing nations. An autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model analyses was conducted on these variables to identify their impact on Ethiopia’s FDI inflow. The analyses results indicated that FDI inflow to Ethiopia is positively and significantly impacted by level of infrastructure, human capital development, and higher level of external debt (lower level of financial health). The result also indicated that high level of inflation rate (measure of the country’s macroeconomic stability) significantly and negatively affects FDI inflow into the country. Based on these findings of the study, relevant policy measures have been recommended.Item Antecedents of Participation in Collective Marketing and its Impact on Farmers’ Income: In the Case of Avocado Producers of Selam Fruit and Vegetable Development and Marketing Cooperative, Amhara Regional State, Ethiopia(A.A.U, 2024-10-27) Aschalew Lemma Woldearegay; Yitbarek Tekle (Phd)The agricultural sector is vital for economic development in Sub-Saharan Africa, particularly in Ethiopia, where smallholder farmers face significant challenges such as limited access to quality inputs and inadequate infrastructure. This study addresses the problem of smallholder avocado farmers' inability to penetrate high-value markets due to weak institutional frameworks and fragmented supply chains. Utilizing a sample of 115 farmers selected through non-probability sampling from four kebeles in the Amhara Regional State, both probit regression and endogenous switching regression analyses were employed to examine the relationship between farmers' participation in collective marketing and their income outcomes. The findings reveal that participation in collective marketing significantly enhances farmers' avocado income share. The Average Treatment Effect on the Treated (ATT) shows that farmers engaged in collective marketing enjoyed an average avocado income share of 34.985%. In contrast, if they had opted out, their income share would have dropped to 26.410%, resulting in an ATT of 8.574%, significant at the 1% level. This positive impact implies that collective marketing participation provides advantages such as improved market access, better pricing, and economies of scale. Furthermore, the Average Treatment Effect on the Untreated (ATU) indicates that non-participants currently have an avocado income share of 25.490%, but this could rise to 34.952% if they participated, leading to an ATU of 9.462%. The statistically insignificant heterogeneity effect (HE) of 0.033% suggests that income variations between participants and non-participants are not driven by unobservable factors but are primarily attributed to the structural advantages of the collective marketing system itself. Overall, these results underscore the importance of collective marketing in enhancing the economic outcomes of smallholder farmers by facilitating better market access and pricing. To bolster collective marketing participation, the study recommends promoting educational programs for farmers, enhancing infrastructure, strengthening cooperative benefits, increasing access to inputs, and improving marketing channels. These strategies aim to improve the economic outcomes for smallholder farmers and promote sustainable income growth within the avocado supply chain.Item Assessing the Effect of E-Banking Service Quality on Customer Satisfaction in Ethiopian Commercial Banks(A.A.U, 2026-02-01) Meklit Gobeze; Tewodros WuhibThe purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of the different dimensions of the electronic banking service quality on the customers’ satisfaction of commercial banks in Addis Ababa. Using a quantitative method, the study gathered information from 304 customers of e-banking who filled out a designed questionnaire. The customers’ perceptions were rank ordered on a 5 point Likert scale in relation to the different levels of service quality from such easily measurable service quality components as system interface to the more subtle issues of trust, privacy, and understanding the needs of the customers as a bank. The researcher employed descriptive statics, correlation and multiple regression analysis to identify the factors that significantly influence the satisfaction of the respondents. The results are fairly straightforward. The strongest, and therefore most significant, of the study dimensions was reliability and overall effectiveness as one is able to acknowledge the agrowing frustration from one such reliability issues as crashing banking. The next most significant study variables were assurance and credibility. Bank users satisfaction in relation to the other study variables such as responsiveness, privacy and security, clarity User satisfaction and communication measures of a system are characterized by varied levels of satisfaction. Some people seem more forgiving of minor delays if they are convinced their information is safe. Others care more about timely feedback from the bank than anything else. Overall, the findings posit that enhancing system stability, improving data safety and providing communication that is more tailored are likely to make positive changes to the experience of digital banking. The analysis urges commercial banks to spend on improved technology, upgraded security systems and more purposeful interaction with consumers in light of the fact that Ethiopia’s digital financial industry continues to expand and diversify its user base. Keywords: customer satisfaction, security, responsiveness, reliability, electronic banking service quality.Item An assessment of deposit mobilization of Commercial banks in Ethiopia:The case of Dashen Bank s.c(Addis Ababa University, 2018-06) Daniel, Alemu; Abebaw, Kassie (PhD)This study aims to assess deposit mobilization of commercial banks in Ethiopia by concentrating the case on Dashen Bank S.C. The study aims to identify strengths and areas for improvement in contract administration practices, including contract clarity, financial management, risk mitigation, stakeholder communication, and the implementation of Building Information Modeling (BIM). Using a mixed-methods approach, the research combines quantitative data from structured Likert scale questionnaires with qualitative insights from semi-structured interviews. The study population consists of professionals directly involved in contract administration, including project managers, office engineers, legal experts, and contractors. Key findings indicate that while contract clarity and communication are generally effective, there is a need for more consistent communication and timely updates to contract documents. Risk management practices are robust but require more consistent application throughout the project lifecycle. Financial management practices demonstrate strong adherence to budgetary constraints and progress payment schedules, though challenges in managing cost escalations and delayed payments highlight areas for improvement. Performance monitoring and documentation practices are established but could benefit from more timely corrective actions and standardized reporting. BIM usage is found to be moderately effective in enhancing various aspects of contract administration, though its adoption within the organization is still limited. The study concludes that while several contract administration practices are effective, there are substantial opportunities for improvement. Recommendations include enhancing contract clarity and communication, improving risk management consistency, strengthening financial management practices, increasing the timeliness in performance monitoring, and expanding the adoption of BIM. Future research could explore the integration of BIM technology across different project phases and investigate the long-term effects of improved contract administration practices on project outcomes.Item Data Driven Managerial Decision Making in Ethiopian Export Sector(A.A.U, 2021-06) Dejene, Kumesh; Fikre, Mesfin (PHD)With the development and deployment of ICT in different sector of an Economy, the type and amount of data collected by organizations is increasing from time to time.
