Item Assessment and Comparison of Some Selected Physical Fitness Level of Physical Education Versus Aesthetics Students in Arbaminch College of Teachers' Education(Addis Abeba university, 2014-04) Mena, Mezgebe; Teka, Solomon(PhD)Physical fitness, especially health-related physical fitness is one aspects closely associated with good health. Participation in regular physical activities is rapidly decreased specially in the college. In collage level professional physical education courses(practical and theoretical) are offered for both linear physical education and cluster Aesthetics only. Due to this, ,this research was conducted to identify the difference points between them in some selected physical fitness parameters and also aimed to assess and compare physical education verses Aesthetics students in selected physical fitness by formulating null hypotheses to accept or reject( whether there is significant difference between physical education and aesthetics group students) by deciding the variables which cause the effect on some behavior of research subjects as independent variables (different health and physical education courses given to both groups in practice or in theory ) to this research and dependant variables of physical fitness and control variables' such as sex difference(for group), age, weight, height, attitude/ interest, academic achievement, balanced diet, and other external factors. To attain this objective 80 research subjects are selected from third year linear and cluster group students as the subject of the research from total population of 2407 of college students both by simple random ( lottery ) and purposive sampling method were selected, and the data were collected through measure by their respective measuring device and procedures. To do this qusi-experimental was designed and statistical tools of independent sample t-test and one/single sample t-test with 5% error ,two tail hypothesis test from the SPSS version-19 were implemented. Finally relative to research subjects generally there is no significance difference between two groups in selected physical finesses variables in independent sample t-test but significance difference of both groups from standard range mean value in single sample t-test .when we compare the mean relatively linear groups have better performance. Based on this the researcher recommend that students should participate in regular physical exercise in order to enhance their fitness level. For the implementation of the Study, a descriptive survey design was employed. The study subjects were selected from the availability samples. In this attempt, data were collected through questionnaires, structured interviews and observation check list. Consequently, the study demonstrated that youth soccer players and all the coaches contributed for the study to be conducted by giving their own views regarding the raised issues were selected on the base of their own voluntary cooperation. The study also payed a thorough consideration to the players parents contribution on the trainees‘ personal soccer skills development and to skip the progress of the youth soccer development as a whole. Moreover, the player selection criteria, the coaching system, and the roles of the administrative bodies to work cooperatively, the facilities provided, the roles of the coaches, lack of frequent training program and the impacts it brought upon the progress of the trainees and the youth soccer development, and failure to conduct frequent follow ups to investigate the strengths and weaknesses of the players through regular assessment all other related issues are taken as a focal point of the study. To achieve these objectives and to detect the factors that hindered the concerned bodies the researcher included male players, coaches, and the Football Federation administrative bodies and encouraged them all to involve themselves in the issues raised in terms of the youth soccer development. Their genuine responses are collected and used as analytical framework for the effective implementation of the study. It was evaluated the training plan, examined the performance of the athlete, the improvement rate, and the gender difference of an athlete with the use of performance predictive (Balke) test, document analysis and observation check list techniques. The research was used comparative study method with the purposive sampling technique, involved 10 male and 6 female athletes which were selected from middle and long distance events. The data gathered from this technique were analyzed and interpreted with percentage and SPSS one way ANOVA statistic method. The results of the findings it shows that the training plan was followed the principles indicated to the literature except the difference with increased volume. The findings also shows the performance predictive test result of group multiple comparisons indicated that there was a significant difference between test one vs. two, one vs. three and one vs. four and there was no a significant difference between test two vs. three, two vs. four and three vs. four. The results of male comparison indicated that there was a significant difference between test one vs. three, one vs. four, two vs. three, and two vs. four, but there was no significant difference observed between test one vs. two and three vs. four. The results of male comparison indicated that there was a significant difference between test one vs. two, one vs. three and one vs. four, but no significant difference observed between test two vs. three, two vs. four and three vs. four. The making of the policy has been followed by the development and implementation of different programs in order to carry forward the innovations enshrined in it. One of the highly emphasized aspects of this policy is the need to implement an active learning education most of the time which is expressed as student-centered, both in content and approach with the objective of producing a problem solving citizen. Related with this, the more elaborate aspiration of the policy is the trend towards shifting learning instructions from teacher-centered approach to a student centered approach. Though a variety of understanding exist on what ‘a student-centered approach’ means, the active learning approach with its qualifications as a student-centered approach and its unquestioned relevance in the development of problem solving citizen, it is expected that this approach is given precedence in the implementation of the policy. Student-centered method of teaching learning as occupied an important place in modern world. This is because it has many advantages in developing learners’ knowledge and skills. But its advantage is realized only when it is effectively and properly applied. Based on this, the main purpose of this study was to assess the status of implementation of active learning (studentcentered method) in PE program of AAU. Teachers, students, class room and fields, and documents were the source of data for this study. Questionnaire was the main data gathering instrument which was supported by observation and document analysis. The result of the study indicate that most of teachers in the PE department got different training in teaching but there is low understanding, implementation way and its helpfulness in an effective teaching learning process. Also the study revealed that the students have a favorable perception towards the method. In addition the university doesn’t serve the necessary materials and equipments that has needed for AL implementation in the PE program. According to the result of the study, teachers’ lack of appropriate training particularly related with active learning method, shortage of instructional materials and facilities has affected the application of the method. Student-centered strategies like problem solving, discovery, inquiry, project, field trip and role play were not applied by the teachers according to different challenges. Finally the study revealed that the teachers of Physical Education department in Addis Ababa University were not properly applying the active learning (student-centered) method. They mostly used traditional teacher-centered method
