dc.description.abstract | This study examines the project planning practices in the context of Addis Ababa Housing Development Corporation, project 06 branch office. It includes key project 06 participants such as project employees, sub-contractors, and contractors. Data were collected through semi-structured questionnaires distributed to 54 key project 6 branch office employees, 4 sub-contractors and 5 contractors, with the total number of 63 respondents. In addition to semi-structured questionnaire, interview on some respondents was conducted to address the research more in detail. The major finding of this study shows that project operation in the branch office often fail to stay within the planned had a major impacts on project success, primarily due to improper project planning practices which accompanied by cost related factors, and scheduling issues. Moreover, it finds out that the project planning was not successfully implemented in the project branch office due to budget related factors in collaboration of other related factors. The project contract agreement signed between the client and the contractors was to complete within a maximum of two years, but this completion within two years plan was totally failed and it takes more than 8 years even though the project operation is underway on some blocks. By involving project team members and analyzing their contributions to the planning process, the research seeks to provide actionable recommendations for enhancing project planning in the studied organization. Additionally, the project branch office advised to collaborate with contractors and sub-contractors to expedite regular interim payments to mitigate delays and disputes between them. This assessment is not only contributes to the theoretical understanding of project planning but also offers practical insights for improving planning practices in similar organizational contexts.
