Abstract
This research aims to acquire an in-depth understanding of the qualities and the valuable skills necessary to effectively practice the profession of FLE teacher in a contemporary context, taking into account social, technological and pedagogical developments. The fundamental objective of this research is to analyze and define those qualities and character traits that should characterize a teacher of French as a foreign language (FLE) of the 21st century. Identify the personal and professional character traits that contribute to the success of teaching FLE, Propose practical recommendations for the professional development of FLE teachers. The research is based on a corpus produced using semi-structured interviews of five teachers from pilot schools in Addis Ababa, and questionnaire intended for female students at Etege Menen Comprehensive Girls’ Secondary School. The result of this research figures out all the necessary qualities and character traits that a FLE teacher should have and the finding of the research highlights that integrating French teaching with the modern technology would be indispensable, having cultural senility, empathy and patience are fundamental character traits of a FLE teacher in our era. And that, on the other hand, creates an inclusive learning environment and promotes the success of the students both in their academic efforts and lifelong journey.
