The main causes of Addis Ababa City Road Authority (AACRA) projects delay are poor site management, payment delay for employee and poor contract management. Thus, the problem of the research is to understand how the emotional intelligence and competency of the project managers are associated with project success and measure its impact level. In this case, independent variables are project managers emotional intelligence and project managers competency with their aspects such as self-awareness, self-management, social awareness and relationship management as well as knowledge, skill and attitude. Dependent variable is project success with sub essential paraments such as project cost, time, quality and stakeholder satisfaction. The researcher employed explanatory research design and quantitative research approach. The research used questionnaire for data collection instrument. Primary data was gathered from the project managers of AACRA's ongoing projects. The data was collected from AACRA, Ethiopian construction works corporation (ECWC), and private contractor project managers. From distributed questionnaire which is forty-five, thirty-six questionnaires were returned back. Correlation and Multiple regression method were used for data analysis. Correlation between emotional intelligence and competency (.748) is strong. The relationship between emotional intelligence and project success (.440) as well as project manager competency and project success (.551) are moderate. The result satisfies all five classical linear regression assumptions. The main finding of the research reflects that project managers competency has impact and predictive relevance on project success. In contrary, project managers emotional intelligence has no significant effect on project success.en_US
