The ever increasing human population is creating significant stress on urban centers globally. Simultaneously, urban green infrastructures are becoming integral components of urban centers to relieve them from the ill effects of rapid urbanization. Ethiopia has drafted various policies and strategies, which are in favor of urban green infrastructures, for the proper development of its urban centers. The NUGIS is one of such documents that the country has drafted to implement such policies and strategies in its urban context. On the contrary, Addis Ababa’s street greenery development, which is part of the UGI of the city, is found to be unsatisfactory and its space allocation for street greenery is inadequate. The current practice of space allocation for street greenery in Addis Ababa by the responsible institutions is analyzed from the perspective of regulation, human resource and inter-institutional involvement. To address the research objectives, the study used qualitative and quantitative research approaches. Accordingly 23 streets were investigated and design data were generated. Similarly, to answer the level of knowledge, attitude and practice of the professional staffs and the level of inter institutional involvement among responsible institutions, an in-depth interview was conducted with 21 professionals from four institutions and results presented. Findings show that, the NUGIS has no influence on the process of Addis Ababa’s space allocation for street greenery. Furthermore, the standard is also found to be unknown by the majority of the officials and professionals in the responsible institutions investigated under this study. On the other hand, the officials and professionals are found to exhibit a high level of positive attitude towards having national standards, such as the NUGIS. They are also highly willing to abide by these national standards, if they are made available. The research recommends that effort has to be made to enhance the influence of theen_US
