Abstract
Organizations are comprised of a myriad of individuals with different perspectives,
assumptions, experiences, personalities, agendas, goals, and ambitions. It is essential that
indi viduals should develop the skills appropriate to effective work with people to achieve
desired outcomes. Absent of these ski lls and insights, individuals will fail to develop the
type of influence necessary to bring about long-term systemic change. On the other hand,
modern organizations searched for better efficiency and effectiveness in organizations in
order to successfull y respond to the increasing demands of their stakeholders. But, there
is an indication of decline in organi zational productivity and outcomes in both the
business and the public sector. Organi zational politics seems to account at least for some
of these problems. As a result organi zational scienti sts and researchers are asked to digdeep
in to the nature and perception of organizational politics.
The study attempted to examine the predictors of employees' perception of
organi zational politics in the work place. The research setting of this study is Addis
Ababa Uni versity. It is one of the oldest and biggest Universities in the land of Africa,
which contributed a lot to the nation by producing qualifi ed and competent students at
undergraduate, graduate and doctorial level. However, the University at this time is not
doi ng as expected. The 0pp0l1unity whi ch is found in this University; therefore, helps the
researcher to dig-deep in to examine the concept 'organi zational politics' lOP) as it is
percei ved by employee of AA U towards the organizational processes such as promotions
and transfers, hiring, pay, resource allocation , delegation of authority, interdepartmental
coordination, personnel policies, di sciplinary penalti es, as political or not.
