Abstract
Thi tudy wa et to examine the effectivene s of the implementation of the second
cycle di tance education diploma program pecific to English Language courses. The
pecific purpo e of the study is concerned with the match of objectives and relevance of
content of the di tance Engli h cour e materlal to the regular college curricula for
training of econd cycle primary chool Engli h Language teacher, effectiveness of the
implementation and efficiency of the delivery system.
For the study, a Survey Research Method was employed. Trainees, tutors and
coordinators from four distance-learning centers were involved in the tudy to give their
opinions. Qualitative and quantitative data were collected through observation,
questionnaires and interviews. Documents have also been analyzed in order to
crosscheck the match of objectives and relevance of contents of the distance course to
the conventional program cour e.
The study has revealed that the objectives and contents of the two programs show high
relationship. The success of the implementation was affected negatively due to leniency
of follow ups, lack of timely and even distribution of module , delay of feedback on
assignments and delay in the year for completion. Absence of accountability to the
program was also seen as one crucial problem. It has al 0 been documented that
instructional (delivery) of the course was affected negatively from variou factors. Lack
of proper training for tutors on how to teach di tance program, in a ailability of
necessary teaching kit , inconsi tence in tutorial schedule , overburden of the work and
the likes were some of the key problems that have been underlined for affecting the
delivery ystem.
evertheless, its output is anonymously acknowledged for developing the knowledge and
kill .of the target group to enable them teach Engli h language better in school . All
sampled respondents, e pecially, trainee, tutor and coordinator, aloin inuated the
importance of the program to continue for other teacher
