Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused biggest humanitarian crisis in this century. The situation in
Ethiopia is scary given the fact to a health system that should be improved. The government and
different volunteers have been encouraging people to maintain the necessary health care
measures where the media is playing the major and most important role. In addition to
spreading awareness media also inform and educate people through a period of time. This
ultimately helps in the change of attitude and behavior of audience for achieving better health
that is required. This study has made an assessment of the impact of broadcasting media in
creating public awareness in the fight against Corona virus. Questionnaire, In-depth interviews
and focus group discussions were employed for answering the research questions and to attain
objectives of the study. In doing so it found out 49.5%, 25.7% and 24.8% of the participants have
shown high, medium and low awareness levels respectively. This shows there is an improvement
but still more has to be done as quarter of them are still resistant in their to the protocols. In
general, this research finds out how the broadcasting media have worked as an external
incentive in changing and influencing the audience’s behavior pattern. The results indicate that
the broadcasting media had positive impact on its audience which has inspired people to
practice safety measurements. It also explains basic improvements on what should be done to
bring permanent positive behavior changes
