dc.description.abstractThe effective use of media is a critical component in combating HIVIAIDS The purpose of [he research was to asses what Betengna program is playing as a media in combating HIVIAfDS HIVIAIDS was selected as a case study, because it is a serious problem throughout the country. Betengna is one of the programs which deal about HIVIAIDS and related health issues. Out of the total programs (230) transmitted by the station, 20% of the programs have been selected for analysis. A total of 230 programs reached to the audience. Both qualitative and quantitative methods were used to analyze data. In order to select the study unit systematic sampling methods has been used. Purposive sampling methods also used to select audience respondents in order to show their attitude towards the program. The questionnaire distributed for 60 purposefully selected respondents. The program, questioners, and semi-structured interview with journalists and audience have been used to collect the necessary data. Content analysis has been used for qualitative data to be analyzed. Table and graphs have been used to present and to analyze the qualitative data. Media theories, development communication and development communication perspectives: diffusion of innovation and participatory approach including agenda selling has been used to inform analysis and discussion. The finding from the study suggested thai the radio station has been able to persuade the audience to consider HIVIAIDS as a major issue of concern. The result of the study showed that the satisfaction level of the Betengna program audience on HIVIAIDS service provided by Betengna program radio is high. Demand for information among the audience in HIV prevention found to be high. Their message production and way of partiCipation encourage the audience. And as the data shows that the program have give more space on prevention. Of all response imply that the programs were well organized and highly participates the audience. Moreover, as the result shows, Betengna is playing what is expectedfrom a media station infight against HIVIAIDSen_US
