Abstract
The major pwpose of this study was to u1Vestigate the status oj the ut ilization of
material resources 'in the skill development centers of Tigray reYLOIl. nnd make
recommendations for improvement.
The areas of concern were the various activities pertaining to the utilization of
material resourres. These are the utilization and handling of material resources,
the availability of appropriate personnel and guidelines, the conI ribution of
material resources for the impl'ementation of the curriculum, the professional
training and experience of principals and supportive staff
To this end, descriptive survey method was employed. Apart from interview of
four principals and four woreda educational officers, data were gathered form 80
professionals, 20 supportive staffs. The data obtained from questionuo ires were
Clnalyzed using statistical tools lilce, percentage, chi-square and t-(c\'l computer
assisted Ms-SPSS program method.
The data from the questionnaire analysis indicated that the status q{ utilization
of material resources ilL the skill development center of Tigmy is lUlU. In Lhe
study, from all the centers were considered, opinion, comments and s ll(Jgestions
were gathered from principals, professionals and supportive sWJJs through
questionnaires.
Some of the major finding includes: the SDC are not in a positIOn to .. uilize their
resources effectively. Most of the principals and supportive staffs do not have the
necessary professional training and experience on their position and leadership
role, misused and destroyed material resources in the training, no inventory
activities, the participation of professionals and supportive staffs in planning
was low, the contribution of maten:al resources for curriculum implementation
was high, and late dissemination of budget from regional and woreda finance.
Hence, it is concluded thar, in most cases, the utilization of material resources oj
all centers was the problem of the adrninistratwe problems. Depending on the
. results of findings, motivate and encourage professionals and supportive staff
pa.rticipation in resource utilization, improving the professiorwls e:q)('riellce U!)
