| dc.description.abstract | Ethiopian government has implemented the community-based water supply system management policy and strategy in the rural water supply sector since 2001. Because community participation is essential for the continued operation of water supply schemes, this paper assesses the sustainability of the rural potable water supply system Empirical Evidence from rural kebeles households, water user committees, and supportive collaborators. Of Dandi Woreda Oromia Region. The study concerned mainly investigating pre-implementation factors, financial factors, social factors, and problems related to the functionality and access of water schemes. To this end, descriptive survey design was employed the study involved both quantitative and qualitative methods. Descriptive statistical analysis was done using means and standard deviation, while inferential statistical analysis was done using ANOVA at critical points F 0 .05 to show a significant level difference between and within the three group means of responses of households, WUC and SC. The result obtained in the finding indicated that; the quality of the construction of water schemes was low, most of the water supply schemes were un-functional, and the amount of service and coverage ease of water supply was low, satisfaction of society with the supply and purity of water was low. The overall work activities and capacities of WUC to control and manage the project were found to be at very low level. If urgent solutions are not given to the existing problems, all the water schemes will stop functioning. Therefore, prioritization should be given to immediate maintenance of the failed water scheme that would be accompanied by overall activities that improve the effectiveness of management of portable water projects. | |
