Ethiopia has facing different environmental problem, There is a common understanding that deforestation is partly due to lack of awareness. In this regard, studies conducted in Ethiopia on this issue are very limited. This study has attempted to explore the coverage of deforestation issues in Broadcast media. For the study, Qualitative data were used. The sampling technique used was mainly purposive. Three key informant interview and Ten in-depth interviews were conducted with higher officials and Journalists. In document analysis there were a sample of 1440 news transmitted across a period of 1st of January 2019 to 31st of December 2019, has been analyzed , Deforestation and Environmental related program were also analyzed the above mentioned period. Results show that no permanent programs was assigned for deforestation issues, FBC also has no framed the issue of deforestation in its communication platform. Lack of deforestation issues information , lack of expertise journalists and training on the concepts of deforestation, scarcity of sponsors and stockholders , inadequate of assigned time for deforestation are some of the challenges faced in the deforestation reporting. From the results it is possible to conclude that given the current trend of deforestation reporting ,the journalists would remain environmentally illiterate. The study further concluded that unless deforestation awareness is urgently created, public awareness would remain low and there would be further deforestation issues. Therefore , the study recommends that measures such as identification of awareness obstacles , framing of deforestation issues as agenda, training and sensitizing of journalists on deforestation issues, and enlightened broadcast management should be given attention.en_US
