Background :The main aim of this study to assess the selected hematological and biochemical profile oftrainees at the Ethiopian youth sports academy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Taking part in sports ata young age has many important health benefits, even if it may involve some risk. This happensmostly at the elite level given the intensive training programs and high-frequency participation insports events. The response of this exercise involves changes in the hematological andbiochemical profiles of the body, which was inadequately investigated in our set up. Methods: - Cross-sectional study was donefrom Jan to March 2020 recruiting 230 Ethiopianyouth sports academy (EYSA) trainees who were taking training indifferent sports types. Hematological and biochemical profiles weremeasuredfrom whole blood and serum collectedby EDTA and SST, respectively. Sysmex XN hematological and BS 200 Mindraybiochemicalanalyzeswere used for analysis. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 23softwareand testsincluding chi-square, preasons correlation, one-way ANOVAs, Games Howells post hoc test.Statistical significance was set at a 95% confidence interval and P-value is less than 0.05. Results: - The hematological and selected biochemical parameters determined for both male andfemale RBC male (mean ± SD), 5.52 ± 0.46, 5.14 ±0.39, HGB 15.98 ±1.32, 15.00 ±1.07, PLT274.20 ± 59.24, 292.24 ±63.30, WBC 5.95 ± 1.72, 6.25 ± 1.69, Creatinine 0.79 ± 0.16, 0.83 ±0.18, and cholesterol 108.78 ± 24.42, 124.03 ± 31. 33. etc.respectively.In the study, there was astatistically significant association between hematological profile with the year of trainingexperience for HCT, basophils % (P< 0.05) others hematological and biochemical parameters didnot have significance (P>0.05). Variation hematological and biochemical profile betweendifferent sport disciplines statistically significant differences for all hematological andbiochemical profile (P< 0.05) except for MCH, PLT, Monocyte, lymphocyte, basophil absolutenumbers, basophils % and GPT whose p-value were (> 0.05). Conclusion: - Hematological and biochemical profiles were determined for both male andfemale trainees of EYSA. Association of hematological and selected biochemical profile withyears of training experience did not show a significant difference for both parameters exceptHCT and BASO %. Variation of both hematological and biochemical profile for most parametershad a statistically significant difference between mean group and between differentsportsdiscipline Recommendation: -It will be useful if clinicians use the determined hematological parametersas a reference until the discipline-specific reference range is stated for them. en_US
