dc.description.abstractBackground: Acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) is caused by the human immune deficiency virus (HIV). HIV weakens the immune system, making the body susceptible to secondary and opportunistic infections. Without treatment, HIV infection leads to AIDS and death. The predominant mode of HIV transmission is through sexual contact. Objectives: To assess the level of Knowledge Attitude and Practice towards HIV/AIDS transmission and prevention, among selected sub cities high school students, Addis Ababa. Methods:A cross-sectional study was carried out on 633 students aged 15–20 years, who were selected by multi stage samplingmethod from in Akaki Kaliti, KolfeKeranio, Yeka and Bolesub cities secondary school, from April, 5 to May1, 2019. To assess their Knowledge Attitude and Practice regarding HIV/ADS transmission and prevention, A Pre-tested questionnaires was administered, at Addis Ketema sub cityAddis Ketema preparatory School. The descriptive data was analyzed using SPSS version 23.0. Results: in this study out of 633, 570(90%) responded. Out of these about 336(58.9%) were female and234(41.05%) were male. Based on the study the following results were found 86.59%, in knowledge, 79.3%Attitude, and 263(46.14) being abstain, 213(37.4%) abstain up to marriage in practice, and the highest source of information was from radio. Conclusion: Knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) among high school students were assessed by using cross sectional study design, and the results indicated that majority of the respondents had awareness good knowledge, positive attitude, and good practice of prevention about HIV.The study also indicted misconception in same issue about perception HIV transmission methods, use of condom which needs to dress. Recommendation: Based on the above information and educational program, the school teachers have good relation with students and they have better opportunity to provide students with necessary information about HIV and life skill education in school. In addition the religious leaders should have to communicate with youths at school to teach religious values.en_US
