Abstract
This study explored the role of women in the management of community water resource projects as an enabling factor to the development of the nation. It also examined the role of women in decision-making before and after the involvement of water resource projects. The subject of the study is taken from the Amhara Regional States in Banjawereda of Gisa and Lidetakebeles sample women.Both primary and secondary data collection techniques such as in depth interviewing and focus group discussions were used in the study. Field observations were also employed as a supplementary method. In this study, the interviews were made through voice recording and field notes taken. The voice-recorded interviews of participants‟ were transcribed word for word in Amharic. The secondary data were collected from document analysis. The study findings explain the nature of women ‟s involvement and role s in water resource management as they attempt to achieve productivity, decision-making, and equity. The role of women in the management of water resources is used to apply their ability and capacity effectively and efficiently. The study further indicated the need for government and nongovernmental integrated work towards achieving empowerment of women and transforming the underdeveloped community into developing communities.
