dc.description.abstractThe significance of historic buildings for the development and value of nations is paramount. These significances manifest in different forms and ways. Hence, this paper investigates the primary roles, in addition to their intended purposes and functions, are their contribution to display nations’ pasts, their indication of the continuity of change in a country’s character, and their ability to mark periods of climax and decadence of civilizations due to various factors. In addition, it analyses importance of historic buildings as are vehicles for the understanding and critical analysis of current generations about their place in history. In doing so, it highlights the benefits ofheritage buildings to contemporary societies regarding their impact on the continuous and inevitable transformation of a nation andits civilization.Moreover, the study assessesthe role of historic building in terms income generation through tourism, in addition to architectural values/ significance acquired through research and education. Hence, this research is intended to assess and discuss the current status of Daga Estifanos Monastery Church,by documentingits historic and architecturalcontext, and proposing possible conservation strategy. To this end, thestudy utilized both qualitative and quantitative research methods and incorporated four specific objectives. The researchalso investigatedand utilized previouslyavailableresearches and conservation activities on this heritage building,together with associated historic structures and artefacts. Hence, the study employed both primary data (interviews, measurements and personal observations) and secondary data from previous works and related literatures.Theresearch included investigation regarding the presence ofpolicy alternativesor deficiencies of existing guidelines, in addition to assessing the degree of understanding and engagements by various responsible institutions and stakeholdersregarding the conservation of architectural heritages at regional and national levels.en_US
