Abstract
Quality improvement (QI) is a crucial aspect of healthcare delivery, aiming to enhance patient care and outcomes through structured approaches. Private hospitals in Addis Ababa, like those globally, face various challenges in implementing QI projects effectively.
This study investigates the quality improvement projects in private hospitals in Addis Ababa, focusing on the challenges and success factors involved. The research employed a mixed-methods approach, involving both qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis. The study targeted 306 participants from various roles and departments within selected private hospitals in Addis Ababa. The data collection methods included self-administered questionnaires and interviews, which were analyzed using statistical software to ensure the accuracy and validity of the findings.
The study identified several key challenges faced by the hospitals, including lack of resources, inadequate training, and insufficient communication. However, it also highlighted several success factors, such as effective project management, strong leadership, and a supportive organizational culture. The findings suggest that these factors contribute to the effective execution and sustainability of quality improvement projects.
The study provides targeted insights into project-specific challenges and success factors, which can inform broader healthcare system improvements. The results can be used to develop strategies for addressing the challenges and building on the successes, ultimately enhancing the quality of patient care and outcomes in private hospitals in Addis Ababa.
Future studies could expand on the current research by investigating the impact of QI projects on patient outcomes and hospital performance. Additionally, exploring the role of technology in enhancing QI initiatives and addressing the challenges faced by private hospitals in Addis Ababa could provide valuable insights for improving healthcare delivery.
