Abstract

This thesis investigates the cross-border attacks by Murle militia in the Gambella region, focusing on their impact on communities and the Gambella Regional state government's response. The study uses a qualitative approach, interviews, and focus group discussions with key stakeholders. The findings reveal severe socio-economic and psychological impacts on the affected communities, including loss of lives, displacement, property destruction, and disruption of livelihoods. The government has implemented security measures and community-based initiatives to promote peacebuilding and reconciliation. However, challenges persist, such as porous borders, limited resources, and complex conflict. The study recommends a comprehensive approach that combines robust security measures with sustainable development initiatives, strengthening border security, enhancing intelligence sharing, and fostering regional cooperation. Long-term investments in education, healthcare, and economic opportunities are also necessary to address the root causes of the conflict and promote lasting peace. The findings offer valuable insights for policymakers, security agencies, and humanitarian organizations involved in conflict resolution and peacebuilding efforts.
