    The Impact of the WTO Agreement on Agriculture on Food Security of Acceeding Countries: The Case of Ethiopia

    Ethiopia, as are most LDes, had a spasmodic food securily problem with in the general spectrum of other socio economic challenges. The counlry is among the most severely food insecure countries of the world characlerized by high reliance onfood imporls and international food aid. It is such a high reliance on inlernalional food imports thai triggered Ihis sludy of influence of the WTO Agreement on Agricullure on food security situation of the country. To that end, the study used the relevant polices and laws of Ethiopia and the pertinent WTO agreements as a primary source. The copious literatures on Ihe area of the WTO Agreement on Agriculture and ils bearing on Food Security have been used as secondary sources. The most important findings of the study include: aJ Ihe subsidies commilmenlS to be undertaken under the WTO Agreement on Agriculture provide a sufficient policy space to continue the existing suppor! programmes which are part of the food security strategy of the country. Thus, the Subsidies. domestic or export, provisions of the WTO AoA does not hinder a sound food security policy; b) opening of borders by lowering tariffs, which seems likely, may represenl a threat to domestic food production unless higher bound rates are negotiated.

    Introducing Regulated Stock Markets in Ethiopia: Relevance to the Banking Sector Development and Role in Investors' Protection

    The banking sector is the dominant source of finance for businesses in Ethiopia. A key characteristic of the Ethiopian banking sector is that the stock of bank credit to the private sector (including nonfinancial public enterprises) remains very low, when compared with the situation in other developing countries. High degree of inefficiency characterizes the banking sector making it difficult for business to get the necessary finance or to start up or expand. The rate of company formation through initial public offer of shares and the separation between ownership and control in Ethiopian share companies is growing. The emerging corporate ownership structure is also a dispersed one. The main focus of this paper is, therefore, discussing the relevance of introducing stock market in light of the existing banking sector development in the country. Most importantly, the thesis discus the role of introducing regulated stock markets in protecting investors in light of the growing dispersed company ownership structure and tIw existing institutional, regulatory, and ,legal framework in the primary offering market. In addition, the study discusses the factors that 'are identified as preconditions and determinants for stock market development along with review and analysis of the objective reality prevailing in Ethiopia with regard to these factors.

    Perceived Contribution of School Leaders Behavior to Students Academic Achievement in Secondary Schools of Addis Ababa

    School leader’s behavior is prominent for ensuring that decisions about curriculum, instructional strategies, assessment, and professional development are based on sound research, best practices, and appropriate data and other contextual information’s. The purpose of the study is to examine the perceived school leader’s behavior contribution to student’s academic achievement in secondary schools of Addis Ababa city administration. For the study qualitative approach designs employed and analyze the data using narration a phenomenological method. A sample of eleven schools and three sub-cities administration selected through purposive sampling techniques. And the main data collection instruments were interview and document analysis. The result of the study revealed that, concerning to perceived school leaders behavior includes the school leaders’ leadership decision, communication, leadership behavior, and leadership effectiveness from respondent description where the main and has a great contribution to the student’s academic achievement. Therefore, to enhance the perceived contribution of school leaders for students’ academic achievement the researcher recommends that the City Administration Bureau of Education take appropriate measures including supply of adequate material and professional support to sub city and providing needed training and administrative support for school leaders to fill their gaps in knowledge, roles and skills the profession requires so that they would better be able to assist teachers and others stakeholders
