Item Anxiety, Depression and Coping Mechanisms during covid-19 among Staff of Amanuel Mental Specialized Hospital(AAU, 2022-02) Mekarim, Hayat; Wuhib, Tigist(DhrCorona virus diseases 2019 (COVID-19) is truly a public health problem and global pandemic. The diseases affect all segments of the population including healthcare workers in different facilities. There is the lack of research done inside the hospital community especially mental health center staffs so that the aim of the study was to assess anxiety and depression, and coping mechanism during the time of covid-19 pandemic among the staff of Amanuel mental specialized hospital. A cross-sectional study design and qualitative design were used. A total of 423 samples were selected using stratify sampling method. A self reported HADs and brief coping scale were used. A descriptive analysis was conducted to estimate the prevalence. Chi-square analysis was used to identify the association and a binary logistic regression was done to identify factors associated with outcome variables. Odds ratio with 95%CI was used to estimate the strength of association and P-value<0.05 and 14 participants participated in in-depth interview using purposive sampling method. The response rate was 94% (n=398). The result shows that the magnitude of anxiety obtained 44.5% and depression 33.4% and in coping mechanism scale depending upon magnitude two best results was selected. The first coping mechanism was the preventive measure including wearing mask, keeping distance, using sanitizer and washing of hands before and after touching the patient or materials and the second mechanism was Religion activities such as attending in religious place, reading regions books and prying during the pandemic. Binary logistic regression analysis indicated being female were statically significant association with anxiety and depression. Other socio-demographic characteristics had no statistically associated with anxiety and depression. In-depth-interview result showed that other psychological problems such as adjustment problem, lack of freedom, limited social life, discomfort, loneliness, sadness, and developing scared surrounding. The magnitude of anxiety and depression was high among staff members of Amanuel mental specialized hospital during COVID-19 pandemic. Adjustment problems, lack of freedom, limited social life, discomfort, loneliness, sadness, and developing scared surrounding were additional reported psychological problems. Preventive and religious coping mechanisms were used by most participants.Item Prevalence and Associated Factors of Stress among Elderly People in Macedonia Charity Association in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia(AAU, 2021) Lulesged, Mister; Wuhib, Tigist(DhrThis research determines the prevalence and associated factors of stress among elderly people in Macedonia Charity Association, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It also determined the prevalence and assesses associated factors. Literatures on prevalence and associated factors were discussed wisely in relation to the research objectives. The research was carried out using quantitative research design. Thus, 348 structured questionnaires were distributed and 211 were collected from Macedonia Charity Association elderly people with 60.6% response rate. Purposive sampling technique was used to select the charity association and elderly peoples, since more elders are found there together. The overall finding of the study shows that 59.7% of the elderly people experienced moderate stress and 4.3% of the others experienced high level of stress. The research can conclude that elders above 65 years of age have impression for the prevalence of stress: elderly people who have health problems have more vulnerable to stress than elderly people who don’t have health problems. Political unrest of Ethiopia stressed 81% of the elders and alarming increment of the goods and items stressed 71.6% of the others. 79.6% of the elders claimed that the increased population of the country, Ethiopia increased their stress level and 78.7% of the elders have Musclo-skeleton problems in Macedonia Charity Association. Based on the findings, the charity association center should employee professional counselor to provide proper professional support for those elderly people. The government, NGOs and concerned authorities should build effective and efficient hospitals for older people and should encourage mass sport with a physician. The government ought to give immediate solutions for political unrest of Ethiopia.Item Prevalence and Contributing Factors of Depression among Women Offenders in Adama Dippo Correction Center(AAU, 2021-10) Amare, Yordanos; Wuhib, Tigist(DhrThis research aimed to determine the prevalence and contributing factors for depression among female offenders in Adama Dippo Correctional Center. Literatures on prevalence and contributing factors are discussed wisely in relation to the research objectives. It discussed based on Relational Theory of Women’s Psychological Development; Implications for the Criminal Justice System developed by Covington in 1998.The research used mixed study design: under the quantitative data questionnaires were made with 80 women offenders who stay in the correction center for more than a month and the qualitative data (interview) was conducted with five women prisoners, women ward guard, women and children affairs officer and a counselor. The study used non-probability sampling technique which is purposive that used to select the respondents from the correction center. The information was gathered strategically & systematically. In order to analyze the data SPSS was used. As a result, descriptive analyses were conducted by employing percent, frequency, mean, standard deviation, and table. Additionally, independent sample T-test and one way ANOVA were used. The study result showed that the major contributing factors which were having children i.e age of children and number of children, length of incarceration and existing age difference are the factors for high level prevalence of depression among female offenders. The quality of the correction center and its accessibilities also matters the female prisoners. Among those participants, 97.5% of the feminine offenders experience severe level of depression. Thus the regional as well as Adama Dippo Correction directors should solve the matter of these depressed feminine offenders found within the Correction Center
