Item Compatibility of Interest and Personality Profile of Urban Health Extension Workers with Current Practices in Addis Ketema, Yeka and Gulele Sub cities, Addis Abeba(Addis Ababa University, 2014-09) Negash, Kassahun; Tefera, Daniel (Ato)The main focus of the study was to explore the relationship between job performance and initial interest as well as personality of Urban Health Extension Workers in Gulele, Yeka and Addis Ketema sub cities. To arrive at the intended target a descriptive in its nature and a health facility based cross-sectional design was employed and using quantitative approaches. The study participants were women urban health extension workers whose employment period greater than six months. In this study some appropriate statistical tools like percentage, means, standard deviation, correlation and multiple regression method was used. Accordingly results indicated that social, enterprising interest and extrovert personality had correlation with awareness creation; introvert, conventional and investigative occupational interest had positively correlated with documentation. Social occupational interest and extrovert personalities found to be the predictor of the overall achievement of Urban Health Extension workers. However, the community culture of Ethiopia need to be considered as the extrovert people may be taken talkative and unstable which affect the acceptability of the community. Thus, the supervisor advice before deployment of this people and follow up is highly required. Human resources managers and related professionals can use these finding to selecting and appointing Urban Health Extension Workers to achieve the desire goalItem Psychological Well-being between Institutional and Non Institutional Orphan Children in Gulele sub city, Addis Ababa(Addis Ababa University, 2015-06) Tsige, Workye; Tefera, Daniel (Ato)The purpose of this study was to compare the psychological wellbeing among institutional and non-institutional orphan children in Gulele Sub City of Addis Ababa. This study was conducted on randomly selected Gulele sub-city, particularly in Hope for children organization, Angles children’s home and kechene orphanage. Hope for children organization is used to identify orphan children who are living in the community. The data were collected from 140 institutional and 149 non institutional orphan children whose ages range between 10 and 18 years old .The data were gathered through questionnaire and psychological wellbeing scale. Quantitative methods of data analysis were employed using percentages, t-test, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Pearson correlation. The results of the study revealed that using mid value of the psychological wellbeing scale, institutional orphan children are relatively not psychologically well compared to the non-institutional children. On the other hand, ANOVA showed that there is statistically significant difference among children of different educational levels in terms of psychological wellbeing. Furthermore, the result of post Hoc comparison revealed a significant mean difference only between Primary and Tertiary level. Similarly, the finding from Pearson moment correlation revealed statistically significant negative correlation between age and children’s psychological wellbeing. However, the independent samples t test revealed that orphans do not differ in their psychological wellbeing as a result of their current place of living and gender. The researcher, therefore, concluded that rather than current place of living and gender, orphan children’s educational background and age have impact on their psychological wellbeing.Item Resilience Level, Risk Behavior and Protective Factors of HIV Positive Adolescents at Mekdim Ethiopia National Association(Addis Ababa University, 2014-02) Wogayehu, Liyu; Tefera, Daniel (Ato)The aim of this study is to examine the resilience level, risk behavior and protective factors of HIV positive adolescents who are a member of the Mekdim Ethiopia National Association at Arada Sub city Woreda 6. Participants of this study were 100 HIV positive adolescents (52 males and 48 females) who are benefiting from Mekdim Ethiopia National Association at Arada sub city Woreda 6. Data collected through questionnaire, Connor Davidson Resilience Scale (CD- RISC), Risky Behavior Rating scale (PWC) and developed protective factor and biographical form. Data analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistical methods. Descriptive statistics (percent, Mean and SD) and inferential statistics such as ANOVA and t- test were employed to uncover the associations among the variables considered. The results revealed that level of Resilience of HIV positive adolescents who are a member of Mekdim Ethiopia National Association is considered to be low. HIV positive adolescents who are a member of Mekdim Ethiopia National Association are at risk of participating in activities which are great impact on their health status. The major protective factors of HIV positive adolescents were spirituality, living with their parents or guardians and have good performance in their educational status. The result reviled that there is no statically significant difference among HIV positive male and female adolescents. Low resilient level adolescents use potentially high risky behaviors such as chewing chat, smoking in high proportion as a coping mechanism. Practical implications of the findings are present
