Qualitative inquiry, data were gathered through in depth interviews. The analysis of this study has been grouped in to two. These are; influence from advertisers/ sponsors and compliance with advertisement regulations. Findings implied that most of the practitioners confirmed that media owners were directly influenced by sponsors and advertisers influence nature of content in media houses . It has also been argued by respondents that media houses didn't operate according to EBA's advertisement proclamation no.759/2012.Item Assessment of Hindcring Factors to Usc Afarigna as a Medium of Instt'uction in Afm' Rcgional Statc: Thc Casc of Somc Selcctcd P"imary Schools(Addis Ababa University, 2011) Seid, Mohammed; Adugna, Getachew (PhD)Nowaday, the practice of mother tongue instruction is common in most of the regions in Ethiopia. Despite this Afar Regional State yet had not made it practical. Thus, the essence of this study was to assess hinderingfactors to use Afarigna as a medium of instruction in the Primmy Education System of the Region. Hence, Zone one, and three WoredasDubti, Aysaita and Afambo out of eight woredas in this zone, were selected purposively on the basis of physical accessibility, familiarity to the researcher and proximity to the regional center. Among 44 primmy schools in these woredas-seven (out of 21), four (out of 14), three (out of 9) i.e.14 primmy schools were selected from each woreda proportionally using simple random sampling technique due to homogeneity of the region. In employing a descriptive survey research method, the study made use of questionnaire, interview and focus group discussion to solicit information ji-om 94 teachers, 112 students, 28 parents, 14 school principals, eight Woreda and Regional Education Officials, two local linguists and two .Regional Government representatives. Besides, document reviews were made in collect daia. The quantitative daw collected using questionnaire was analyzed based on ji-equency counts and percentage and the qualitative data was analyzed by summarizing the words of respondents. Accordingly, the following major findings were obtained i) the absence of native primary teachers, lack of native curricular experts and lack of initiation and decision by the decision makers hampered to use Afarigna as a medium of instruction; ii) The legal policy and the development of the language (Afarigna) factors were found to have no hindrance to use Afarigna as a medium; iii) Afarigna as If medium at primary level was a highly well come and eagerly awaited issue among all parents, learners and teachers; iv)The existing situation in Afar region was found rich in terms of opportunities to use Afarigna as a Mol; and v)The ongoing efforts made t6 use Afarigna as a working language and school medium was deservedly considerable. Th~reajier, it was conch/ded that lack of decision and commitment of decision makers were the key inhibiting factors about the issue under consideration. Finally, the decision makers as well as those who involved in the education system at different level should be initiated and committed to implement the language policy in the region was recommended.Item An Assessment of the First Three Years School Improvement Program Implementation in Government Secondary Schools of Addis Ababa(Addis Ababa University, 2011-05) Seid, Mohammed; Hussiell, Abdulaziz (PhD)This study was intended to assess the implementation of the first three years school improvement program. In order to achieve this purpose, basic questions: to what extent school improvement program was implemented in Addis Ababa government secondary schools, to what extent stakeholders were involved in the implementation process of SIP , what were the !clctors that impeded the success of the school improvement program, what were the lessons learnt from the implementation of the first three years school improvement program were raised. Descriptive survey method was employed as a research method in this study. Both probability and non probability sampling techniques were used. Accordingly 3 sub cities were randomly selectedFom ten sub cities found in the city administration. From the total 12 secondary schools found in the study area, 9 were again randomly selected and included in this study. School leaders, teachers, students, SIC members, teaching learning core process owners, and professionals Fom teaching learning core process of Addis Ababa City Administration Education Bureau were used as primm)' sources of data and document review as secondary data sources. Questionnaire, interview, FGD, observation, and document analysis were employed as data gathering tools. Afler data were gathered, analysis was made by organizing in tables and computed using percentages, rank mean, and one way ANOVA. Thefindings revealed that the overall level of implementation of the first three years school improvement program was moderate. Shortage of input, lack of professional support Fom district, sub-city and regional educational bureau, inability of school improvement committee to properly play their role, turnover of principals and indicators being tedious and redundant among others were problems encountered by secondary schools in the implementation process of SIP. It was concluded that shortage of input and absence of monitoring and evaluation negatively affect the implementation of SIP. To alleviate the problems and improve quality of education, strengthening monitoring and evaluation on SIP implementation, retaining experienced school leaders, assigning laboratory technician to schools, and making the school improvement committee jill1ctional were among the recommendations.Item A Business Opportunity Study on Recovery of Fuel Oil, Carbon Black and Steel from Used Tyres(Addis Ababa University, 2014-05) Ayehubzu, Gebru; Seid, MohammedThe purpose and scope of this study is to introduce used tyre pyrolysis business and provide general information on the project. Tyre pyrolysis is a process carried out in the absence of oxygen to recover fuel oil, gases, carbon char and steel from used tyres. The study is based on data gathered from pertinent secondary and primary sources, and certain assumptions. In the study, it is found that about 40,000 tons of scrap tyres are generated annually in Ethiopia currently, out of which about 6,000 tons per year are estimated to be available for pyrolysis project. The envisaged project will have adequate market for its products. A plant with 12 tons per day capacity with technology from China is selected. The best location for the project is in the outskirts of Addis Ababa or Oromia towns around Addis. The total investment cost of the project is estimated at Birr 12.6 million. The financial analysis shows that the project is viable in all measures of profitability analysis: The simple rate of return on total investment at full capacity operation is 52%; the payback period is 3.6 years including the construction period; the net present value (NPV) over the total investment, calculated at 12.5% discount rate, is positive (i.e., Birr 19,447,413); the internal rate of return (IRR) over the total investment is 43%; and annual cash surplus starts in the second year and continues to grow. The result of sensitivity analysis shows that the project is primarily sensitive to fuel oil sales price, and also to scrap tyre acquisition cost on secondary level. The feasibility of the project becomes marginal if the steel has no sales, and the project ceases to be feasible if both carbon black pellet and steel do not have market. This is in conformity with the findings in the literature. The project possesses wide range of benefits such as generation of social surplus and employment, import substitution and contribution to the transfer of technology. In addition, the project greatly contributes to the environmental protection effort by cleaning waste tyres, reducing the health and fire hazards and avoiding release of chemicals that harm the environment by open burning. Hence, the project is worth implementing, and it is recommended that interested parties should prepare a detailed feasibility study and start the project soon to get the first mover advantages. In this regard, emphasis has been given to specifying the English language needs in each domain and preferred skills, activities and micro language items that could meet the specific language needs of trainees (Cadets) in academic, future career, and private and social life contexts. In carrying out the research, questionnaire was used as a chief data gathering tool for subjects, including 60 students, 30 former graduates, 2 English language instructors, and 6 administrators. Besides, interview and focus-group discussions were conducted for 1 English language instructor and 5 students respectively. The study has also been assisted with text analysis of the current course material (college English V-1). In the analysis the results have been triangulated for vivid manifestation of cadets’ English language needs as perceived by all respondents (stake holders). The study clearly indicated that cadets have high English language needs in the three domains. However, since trainees are preparing to become police officers a very high English language need has been recorded in the future career domain. On the contrary, the text analysis revealed that the current course book fails to incorporate the kind of English language that suits learners’ future profession. On the other hand, although all the subjects realized the significance of both macro and micro skills in the three domains, they prioritized speaking, listening, reading, and writing in due order. They also believed that vocabulary and grammar should be learnt more than pronunciation. Hence, the college, syllabus designers and other concerned bodies need to design a kind of course material that satisfies the needs of cadets in the three domains, but with special emphasis to the kind of English that serves their future careerItem Factors Affecting Customer Choice to use Interest Free Banking in Ethiopia: The Case of Commercial Bank of Ethiopia(A.A.U, 2021-06) Seid, MohammedThe capacity of Interest Free Banks to increase extensive market share in a challenging financial environment, mainly in a dual-banking system use similar Ethiopia, will primarily hinge in the ability of interest free banking to formulate and implement effective marketing strategy. This requires a pure understanding of factors affecting the customer awareness on interest free banking practices. To address the stated problems, this research identifying factors affecting of customer choice to use interest free banking product and services the case of Commercial Bank of Ethiopia. An explanatory approach used to investigate the factors affecting customer’s choice to use Interest free banking by using variable; awareness of customer, perceived risk, perceived financial cost and religious belief. Both probability and non-probability sampling were used in the sampling technique. A total of 399 respondents from different branches in Addis Ababa districts are selected for the purposes of this study. Out of these 369 respondents properly respond the questioner. And the data analysed through descriptive and inferential statistics using linear regression. By the findings, out of the proposed four factors in affecting customer choice interest free banking the case of commercial bank of Ethiopia, the three factors namely; awareness of customer, perceived risk and religious belief were found to be statistically significant but perceived financial cost has insignificant impact on customer choice on interest free banking. Furthermore, on the basis of the research findings appropriate recommendations along with implications for further studies have been forwarded.Item Geology, geochemistry and genesis of tantalite deposit of the primary ore zone of Kenticha rare metal pegmatite field, Adola Belt, Southern Ethiopia(Addis Ababa Universty, 2016-05) Seid, Mohammed; Desta, Zerihun (PhD)Tantalum is the most important valuable raw-material in electronic, medical and chemical industries. The Kenticha rare-element granite pegmatite in the Neoproterozoic Adola Belt of southern Ethiopia, is a subhorizontal sheet-like structurally controlled intrusive body, is an important source of tantalite, niobite and beryl where tantalite is currently mined and exported globally. A little is known about the mineralogy, content of trace elements, ore forming and interplay processes, and mechanisms leading to tantalite-columbite mineralization in granite pegmatites. The aim of this work is to evaluate the geology and geochemistry of tantalite deposit in the primary ore zone of the Kenticha granite pegmatite to further elucidate the genesis of the tantalite deposit. An integrated approach of geological field work, rock and ore petrography, and whole-rock analysis by ICP-MS and ICP-AES using drill core data was used to achieve this aim. The Kenticha rare metal pegmatite deposit is controlled by major deep-seated normal faults striking in a N–S direction that allow the emplacement of the deposit bounded by the serpentinite to the hangingwall and granite to the footwall. The Kenticha peraluminous pegmatite deposit show zonal variations in mineralogical assemblage, tantalite concentration, and trace and rare earth elements content. Six distinct mineral assemblages and three main zones: border, intermediate and core zones were identified from literature analysis, field observation, petrographic study and whole-rock analysis. The tantalum and niobium concentration increase towards the core zone while the niobium concentration increase to border zone. The columbite group minerals (CGM) variation diagram shows progressive fractionation from ferroniobite to manganotantalite of primary magmatic fractionation with later hydrothermal-metasomatic alteration. It is strongly differentiated granitepegmatite enriched with Rb,Be, Nb, Ta and Csand depleted in V, Ba and Sr contents for whole–rock analyses of the Kenticha drill core samples. The rare earth element (REE) patterns of the primary ore zone shows slight enrichment in LREE with strong negative Eu-anomaly. From mineralogical assemblage, tectonic setting and geochemical signatures the genesis of Kenticha tantalite deposit is by partial melting of metasedimentary rocks predated the granite and pegmatite with later hydrothermal-metasomatic enrichment of tantalite in the area. Its formation and emplacement is related to the collision and felsic magmatism during post-Gondwana assemblyItem The Impact of Branding on Consumer Buying Decision Behavior of Local Leather Footwear Products(Addis Ababa University, 2015-06) Seid, Mohammed; Mebrhtu, Kahsu (Assistant Professor)Brands are considered to create trust and develop ties with customers. The sample respondents were also taken from Addis Ababa region and include both men and women customers who attend the age of 18 and bought local leather foot wear during the past one year period. Data was collected through a self-administered questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics with the help of SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences). Based on the analysis the result shows that, brand name and logo have significant impact on consumer buying decision behavior of local made leather footwear products while the other variables such as brand character; slogan and packaging have no significant impact on consumer buying decision behaviorItem The System is Clear Easy and Understandable(Addis Ababa University, 2008-12) Seid, Mohammed; Midekso, Dida(PhD)Public transport plays a great role in assisting people to travel from one location to another especially in cities. The delivery of information related to public transportation assists passenger to preplan their trip/journeys and save their time that should have been spent asking around or looking for their information from other source. Based on Addis Ababa city administration information, the city serves 3.74 million people. The city bus transport is an important element of city infrastructure. At the present time, most of the people in Addis Ababa city people prefer to travel by city bus as their primary choice. However, today because of the complex bus route lines, it is obvious that an online mobile web application bus route inquiry may help people plan their travel and find the best route number. Currently, in Addis Ababa city there is no reliable source of ACB route information that is easily accessible to passengers. Different techniques are used to collect information about public transportation mainly on ACB transportation service in Addis Ababa including interviewing passenger and ACBE worker, document review, literature review and the Internet. In this work, we designed and implemented Anbessa city mobile based route information system to assist travelers to preplan their trip/journey by giving them a platform where Anbessa city bus information and routes could be accessed. The system was evaluated with 22 users (passengers and ACBE workers) and the overall performance of the system is found to be encouraging.
