Item Educational Support Service Provided For Students With Visual Impairment In Siltie Zone at Daloca Primary School(2020-06) Bilka, Mustefa; Achaw, Tilahun(PhdThe purpose of this study is to examine the practice of educational support service for students with visual impairment in Siltie Zone at Dalocha primary school. A qualitative research design was employed an interview and observation checklist to gather data. With this Principals, teachers, the itinerant teacherand students with visual impairment participated in the study.Totally 19 participantsparticipated by Purposive and availability sampling techniques. Then, the data were analyzed thematically which werepreset in relation with research questions. According to the finding of the research, there was inadequacy and shortage of educational support service for students with visual impairment.Required resources and equipmentare absent or not functional and available resource and equipment are inadequate.There are no required library resources and equipment. Students with visual impairment are not very well supported in terms of mobility orientation. The school is not currently equipped with varied and relevant tactile teaching aid. The assessment and evaluation techniques are not modified according to visual impairment. Teachers do not use appropriate teaching methods and there are lots of uncomfortable features in the compound for students with visual impairment. Finally, recommendation was made based on the finding of the study to fulfill required resources, to provide training for teachers and make the school environment suitable for students with visual impairment.Item Principals’ Attitude and Perception Towards The Implementation of Inclusive Education In Addis Ababa Kolfe Keraniyo Sub City(AAU, 2020-06) Getachew, Abeselom; Achaw, Tilahun(PhdPrevious researchers have indicated that principals play a key role in implementing successful and effective inclusive programs. However, there remains a gap in the literature regarding the attitudes and perceptions of principals toward the implementation of inclusive education. Therefore, the purpose of this quantitative methods research was to investigate the attitudes and perceptions of primary school principals towards the implementation of inclusive education in Addis Ababa Kolfe Keraniyo Sub city. A total of 86 participants; 56 male and 24 female principals and 6 supervisors and educational experts were selected by using simple random sampling and purposive sampling. Attitude and perception scales of five point Likert Scale, interview and open ended questions were used to collect data. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. This study investigated how demographic variables; sex, education level, experience and trainings affected principals’ attitudes and perceptions towards the implementation of inclusive education. Results indicated that most principals had negative attitudes and unrealistic perceptions towards the implementation of inclusive education. Of the variables sex, education level and training were significant predictors of unfavorable attitudes and unrealistic perceptions towards the implementation of inclusive education. The qualitative data results indicated that lack of training, lack of knowledge and experience about inclusive education, education level, lack of special needs focal person and special needs teachers, shortage of resources, and factors related to school physical environment were the major factors affected principals’ attitudes and perceptions. Ongoing training will prepare principals with positive attitudes and realistic perceptions towards the implementation of inclusive education.Item Psychosocial Challenges Encountered by Mothers Having Children with Cerebral Palsy at Cheshire Service Ethiopia, Addis Ababa.(AAU, 2020-06) Achaw, Tilahun(PhdCerebral palsy (CP) is a permanent neurological impairment that caused by a damage of central nervous system that present before or during birth or in the first month of life & mainly characterized by non- progressive, abnormal motor control, unusual and non-standardized posture with communication difficulties. The consequences of CP do not affect only the child‟s life but also the families. However, mainly the professional care has mainly focused and provided merely from a child‟s perspective and mother side is less concerned. The objective of the present study was to explore the psychosocial challenges encountered by mothers having children with cerebral palsy in Addis Ababa, at Cheshire Service Ethiopia. The study employed a qualitative approach with a phenomenological research design. To find out pertinent response, the researcher recruited thirteen biological mothers of children with CP and selected them using purposive sampling method. From the total of thirteen respondents, seven of them participated in individual face to face interview and the remaining six participated in focus group discussion (FGD). The data was collected through semi-structured interview and FGD. Then analyzed qualitatively, using thematic analysis approach. From the findings of the study the following conclusion are drown. Before the birth of their children with CP there is lack of accurate information in regards to the concept of CP. The burden of care giving demands makes the mothers to be shocked and overwhelmed. These consequences, make mothers to faced psychological distress, social isolation, financial and marital problem, physical health problem (particularly, shoulder and back pain problem), lose of work opportunities and become unemployed. One of the cause of psychological challenges is discrimination that made by the community. There is a healthy mother-children relationship & have immediate eye contact even they are on the work because of their fearfulness may their children acquire further impairment. The most common coping mechanisms that employed by respondent mothers are, accepting their children‟s disability, regulating once emotion, religious coping, and receiving social support. The researcher recommended that, the government should access developmental physiotherapy services in the country. The societies must build up a positive perception towards mothers of children with CP. the physical, educational & the attitudinal barrier that existed in school could be adapted.
