Item An Assessment of Project Management Practices and Challenges of local NGOs: the case of Rehabilitation Service for the Deaf Association (RSDA)(A.A.U, 2021-05) Tadesse Assefa; Abagissa JemalThe main purpose of the study was to identify and evaluate the challenges encountered through project management practices in Rehabilitation Service for the Deaf Association (RSDA). The study aims to point out these difficulties and thus improve the project management practice in order to benefit from the findings. A descriptive research method is used in order to achieve the intended purpose of the study. Closed-end and Open-end questionnaire were used for the purpose of collecting required data for the study. From 230 target population of the study in the inclusive education project and its stakeholders, I took 70 sample size by using the solving formula. n =N/1+N (e) 2. Out of 70, 68 questionnaires were collected by distributing the questionnaire to those eight groups by purposive sampling method. The data were analyzed using software Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS V.22) to generate mean, frequencies, standard deviation and percentages of the statics. A project scope management challenge is a challenge in RSDAs project management practice. This indicates that the RSDA Project Management is to work with special emphasis on this. On the other seven factors, however, good project management experience was evident. In addition to that, the study suggested that emphasis should be given to items like Item `` the project office does not use all the options to make the budget source secure and sustainable`` because the respondents have no confidence on the sustainability of the project. Success factors are inputs for the management system that lead directly or indirectly to the success of the project.Item Causes and Negative Consequences of Street Vending in Addis Ababa, The Case of Gulele Sub-City(A.A.U, 2021-07) Tadesse Wondu; Abagissa JemalThe study was aimed at analyzing the causes and consequences of street vending and suggesting mitigating solutions that Addis Ababa Gulele sub-city administrators face in managing street vendors and keeping the sub city in order. However, the street vendors’ issues cannot be solved at the sub-city level, even at the city level it cannot be solved, they are national affairs, and so it needs a national response. The study employed both qualitative and quantitative research methods, with data gathered through convenience and purposive sampling from 196 street vendors, 25 code enforcers, 25 street vendor customers, and government officials via questioners and interviews. The sample size of the survey was calculated using a sample size determination formula for an unknown population size. According to this study, the major causes of street vending are incompetence in the formal market, unemployment, government bureaucracy for licensing. The major negative effect of street vendors are creating traffic and sidewalk congestion, tax evasion, environmental pollution, selling poor quality items, and being threats to existing businesses by occupying legal trading areas to attract more customers The study recommended providing financial credit for street vendors, revising criteria of registration, and licensing street vendors within the aim of fair and equitable access. It is important to work in rural development to prevent rural urban lobar migration. Organizing street vendors' associations and generating awareness helps them understand their rights along with their obligations to work in a self-disciplined manner.Item Challenges and Prospects of Privatizing Ethio-Telecom(A.A.U, 2021-09) Girma Yoseph; Abagissa JemalThe study aims to explore the challenges and prospects of privatizing Ethio-Telecom, The study applies mixed research approach. In doing so, both primary and secondary data employ as a research process to study the various issues involved in the paper. To collect the primary data, Questionnaires, key informant interview and in-depth interview and key informants and in-depth interview purposely selected from Ethio-Telecom administration officials and informed citizens were used as means to get data for the study. The secondary data were collected from different published and unpublished documents such as relevant theoretical concepts, textbooks, and journal articles, scholarly works and bar reviews, as well as websites. A total of 280 questionnaires were circulated, however 268 completed and properly returned, out of the total sample 12 questionnaires were not returned, thus; making the response rate 95.71%. Therefore, 268 useable questionnaires were considered for this study. These respondents were selected by using a random sampling technique. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 26 descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage) and inferential statistics like correlation. Finally, Based on the finding majority employees not support Ethio-Telecom to be sold to foreign investors and Privatizations will escalation profitability, operating efficiency Based on study finding the conclusion drawn and the researcher recommends that idea for the public to consult and discuss the privatization process.Item The Role of NGOs in Women Economic Empowerment: The Case of Gullele Sub City Addis Ababa City Administration(A.A.U, 2021-08) Minale Solomon; Abagissa JemalIt supposed that providing different programs by Non-Government organizations to women have major effect for women empowerment through economical improved. Thus, this study tried to assess the role of NGOs in women economic empowerment through generating income, facilitating women saving habits, improving women’s economic decision making ability and raising women’s spending on their income and asset ownership rights. Both primary and secondary data were used. The primary data were collected using questionnaires and interview. The secondary data were collected from reference books, internet, previous researches and information documents of NGOs and other relevant sectors found in the study area. Descriptive and statistical tools such as paired sample T-tests and Pearson correlation were used in analyzing the data collected. The finding indicated the major contribution of NGOs operating in the area includes, improvement of the quality of lives of women, improvement in the economic status of the community in general, enhancement of expenditure management and planning, asset management , saving and income generation through NGOs practices operating in the study area has assisted economically disadvantaged women to set goal in order to engage in income generating activities, to create small and micro enterprises and to create source of incomes.
