Abstract
The purpose of this research was to assess the status and contribution of volunteer work in the selected primary schools in enhancing the educational enrollment and attendance of HVC. To assess the status of volunteerism in selected primary school the level of school community engagement, motivation, contribution for educational enhancement and challenges of performing volunteering service was part of the finding. The data were collected by self- administer open ended and scale questions. The open-ended items explored about the demographic characteristic, level of volunteerism, challenges encountered in voluntary work and the contribution of volunteerism in the learning enhancement of highly vulnerable children. To triangulate the result FGD for qualitative data were used and assessed the contribution of school volunteerism for educational enhancement and helped to strengthen the responses in scaled and open-ended questions. The participants were 89 primary education first cycle teachers and management staffs from four primary schools of Addis Ketema government primary schools. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistical methods using percentage from frequency count to see the states and contribution of volunteer services. Both the percentage count and FGD revealed 90 % of the first cycle selected primary school of volunteerism staff members engaged in volunteer activities and the main actors were teachers. In the case of motivation the driving factor for school community for volunteerism was Altruism. The volunteerism engagement of the school community help HVC in improving their attendance and reduce the food problem since volunteers play a vital role in school feeding. When volunteers perform their activity lack of training was the one raised by most volunteers.
