Abstract
This study examines the operational challenges in Ethiopia's pharmaceutical manufacturing sectorand their impact on sector development and market share growth. The industry faces financialconstraints, raw material disruptions, technological limitations, and supply chain inefficiencies, withlow capacity utilization reported by most respondents. Critical issues include forex shortages, rawmaterial supply problems, political instability, and customs regulations. While government policiesare generally supportive, there is a call for stronger protection of local manufacturers. The studyhighlights the sector's potential to contribute to national health and economic development,
emphasizing strategies such as financial support, policy reforms, supply chain optimization, humanresource development, technological advancements, and strategic alliances. These efforts couldenhance operational efficiency, competitiveness, and long-term growth. Future research shouldexplore comparative studies, policy assessments, innovation, and foreign investment to deepenunderstanding and guide effective strategic planning in the industry.
