Abstract
This study targeted to assess Knowledge, Attitude and Behavior (KAB) on
HIV/ AIDS among members of Ethiopian National Association of Blind
(ENAB) using both quantitative and qualitative data. A total of 442
members of ENAB from Addis Ababa were taken as study subjects by
simple sampling technique. A cross-sectional study design was employed
in this study.This study discusses the sampling procedure employed and the quality of
data and examines the relationship between knowledge, attitude and
behavior (KAB) and s elected background characteristics of the study
population using uni-variate, and multivariate statistical techniques of
data analysis. In multi-variate analysis, logis tic regression model has been
used.The dependent variables (KAB) were tested against the independent
variables: age, religion, ethnicity, income level and place of previous
residence were used as significant variables.
The findings showed that universal knowledge of HIV/ AIDS among
members of ENAB in Addis Ababa. However, knowledge of HIV/ AIDS by
itself doesn't guarantee for sexual behavior change among the study
population. There were significant variations in sexual behavior among the
study population with their age, current marital status, income level and
place of previous residences. Attitude (perception) towards the disease
was found almos t equal chance to be infected with the disease among
male and female respondents. Misconception also was observed in the
mode of HIV / AIDS transmission among the study population.
The study has found that the youth (15-19), Never Married, No income
Group and those pre vious places of residence was not Addis Ababa need
protection.
Finally, the study concluded by providing possible recommendations, that
may help to improve the exis ting high level of knowledge, attitudinal and
behavioral modification among the study population.
