Abstract
This study attempted to identify how educational materials resources are managed and utilized,
role of stakeholders and problems related to educational material resources management and
utilization. To meet already stated objective descriptive survey design is used to carry out this
study. This is because the design helps to obtain first hand information from multiple sources.
Accordingly, the study was carried out on all six secondary schools of Dera Woreda.
Respondents were selected by availability sampling technique due to their direct relation with
the issue under study and also to gain sufficient information. Accordingly the study involved all
126 teachers, all administrative staffs, two WEO heads, and both CRC supervisors; the total of
161 respondents. The data were collected through questionnaire, interviews and observation.
Data gathered through questionnaire were quantitatively analyzed using percentage and mean
value whereas the data gathered through interview, open ended questions and observation were
qualitatively analyzed. The finding of the study revealed: lack of participation of stakeholders in
material management, lack of awareness creation and training about material management
functions, lack of timely maintenance practices of materials and lack of continuous supervision
and controlling system. Based on these findings, it is forwarded some recommendation: To
improve the management and utilization of educational materials: school managements should
work closely with the school community and stakeholders. Capacitating stakeholders through
training and accessible guidelines.
