dc.description.abstractThe purpose of this paper is to analyze the historical trend of crime news reporting of Polis Edna Ermijaw Newspaper in three governments of Ethiopia- IMPERIAL- DURG AND EPRDF in the view of content analysis and structure of the news. This is not to mention the challenges and opportunities faced by the pracvtioners.so the political implication of the three governments. In order to address the research questions, qualitative methodology was employed for the required data. In addition, content analyses on Polis Edna Ermijaw newspaper, that lasted from October, 1961upto October2019, was taken .An in depth interview was also made with four purposefully selected participants for triangulation. The analyzed data revealed that Polis Ena Ermijaw newspaper was established with the purpose of informing, educating and entertaining the community, besides reporting crime news. The study also revealed that the News Paper, which has been administered by the Ethiopian Federal Police Commission, followed traditional structure of media system in which most of its coverage was in crime news reporting during the three consecutive governments – Imperial Era, Dreg & EPRDF. During imperial era, most of the crimes were cattle theft and gambling by various plays. During the Dreg, political crime and killings were common. During EPRDF crimes increased in type and in number .e.g. Fraud, smuggling, corruption, kidnaping and human trafficking were seen. The finding showed that the quality of journalist and the content of the news as well as the readability of the newspaper were poor. During the imperial and Dreg Era the circulation of the newspaper was very high. More than 150,000(one hundred fifty thousand) copies of polis ena eremejaw were used to be printed every two weeks. In addition, the study indicated that the golden period of the newspaper was the imperial eraen_US
