The Prevalence of Non-Communicable Diseases Among Patients Attending Care at Tirunesh Beijing General Hospital

Abstract
Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are illnesses that are not contagious and cannot be passed from person to person. Non communicable disease kills 41 million people each year, which is equivalent to 71 percent of all death globally. The prevalence of NCDs appears to be high and increasing in Ethiopia, but comprehensive and regular surveillance data is lacking. The main objective of this study was to assess the prevalence of non-communicable diseases among patients attending care at Tirunesh Beijing General Hospital which is found in Addis Ababa Akaki Kality sub city woreda 01. The interview- administered questionnaires technique was used to collect the secondary data from the outpatient department of Trunesh Beijing General Hospital. Accordingly, a total of 7620 patients information were sampled by systematic random sampling technique and the data were analyzed with descriptive statistical method. From the total of 7620 NCD patients, 54% (4116) were male and 46% (3504) were female. Among the total NCD patients, 23% (1752) were diagnosed with hypertensive, 21% (1596) were diagnosed with cardiovascular disease. 10.76% (820) were diagnosed with diabetes mellitus. 14.8% (1130) diagnosed for different cancer. 9% (686) accounted for chronic respiratory disease (asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), 7.6% (580) accounted for chronic kidney disease and the left were diagnosed for different NCDs. This study found that the magnitude of different NCDs in the study area was very high. Hypertension was one of the most prevalent diseases among the NCDs patients registered at Tirunesh Beijing General Hospital
