dc.description.abstractThe purpose of this study is to assess warehousing activities and challenges in a case of ethio telecom. To address this study descriptive analysis method had employed, in addition, this study applies mixed approach. Mainly data was collected using questionnaire, hence the nature of data obtained through this method are quantitative, in addition, qualitative type of data were also gathered using open ended questions from part of the questionnaire and through interview, these are going to be used in supporting & giving full meaning to data obtained by questionnaire. Due to the size of this studies population is few in number and below 100, which is 79, this research is a census study. A total number of 75 questionnaires were distributed, 70 were filled and returned, from this three (3) were filled incompletely, thus, 67 questionnaires were correctly filled & used. Frequency, tables and percentages has used to analyze the data, with the support of SPSS 23 version. The study mainly focused on how are warehousing activities being practiced by ethio telecom, how much emphasis given to warehousing activities, in relation to the five main activities (receiving, put-away, storage, order- picking, and shipping) and what are the major challenges in warehousing practices of ethio telecom. Accordingly, the finding of the study showed that, inadequate availability of unloading & loading space; insufficient availability of machinery’s/equipment has to unload, load and move materials. The poor availability of packaging materials. Storage area of goods are also improper, uneconomical and insufficient (including insufficient & narrow sized racks & shelves). Furthermore, the time taken to perform the order – picking activity is higher in the warehouse; this is due to design of the storage area & difficult to pass-through. Low attention given to provisioning of training. Above all, there is significant delay in making decision to avoid/discard obsolete & scrape items, in which abandoned here & there.en_US
