Abstract
Effective and efficient project management practices are essential for development of successful projects as indicated by studies in Literature.. This study sought to assess the extent to which project management knowledge areas and their respective processes were practiced for the implementation of projects in the African Union Commission. The study also assessed the effect of the organization’s project management practice to the perceived project performance. In order to achieve the objectives of the study, questionnaire was developed as a main instrument of the study to collect the primary data. Descriptive analysis was applied to answer the research questions and objectives. The results achieved revealed that generally project management practices on Integration, schedule, scope, cost, resource, procurement and stakeholder were highly practiced knowledge areas. Furthermore the study showed that knowledge areas on quality, risk and communication were moderately used in the organization. Moreover, the effect of the organization’s project management practice on project performance indicated that completion of projects within schedule, budget and set standards were sometimes achieved while project objectives were frequently met. The study finally recommended that the main areas of improvements on the existing practices include project management processes on schedule, quality, communication, resource, and risk management.
