Abstract
has become an apparent phenomenon that emerging workforces are dominating the workplace
of any organization; coming up with their own distinct and peculiar need, desires and
characters. Company strategies for attraction and retention of these young and energetic
workforces require adaption, as the ‘one-size-fits-all’ model no longer appears to be appropriate
for today’s multigenerational workforce. This study examined the effectiveness of managing the
emerging workforce in Wegagen Bank S.C. on selected branches located in Addis Ababa. The
variables used in the study were sourced from different theoretical as well as empirical
literatures and finally fine-tuned to meet the intended specific purpose. Since the research data
source was primary, field survey was the method deployed. As the nature of branches differ in
their volume of transaction, customer base as well as numbers of years in operation, branches
were classified in to three categories. Representativeness of the sample respondents was assured
by using proportionate stratified random sampling design technique thereby 202 out of 210
questionnaires were collected from the sample respondents. The questionnaires were analyzed
using both descriptive statistics such as percentage, mean, and standard deviation and
inferential statistics such as T-test, one way ANOVA and multiple linear regression with the
support of SPSS version 20. Majority of the respondents were male, single, holder of a first
degree, and in early stage of their career ladder. The findings based on the data analysis also
revealed that the demographic variables such as gender and work experience had insignificant
influence in predicting the effectiveness of managing the emerging workforces. Moreover, the
regression results for the independent variables such as Nature of the work, Continuous
feedback and recognition, Management style, Opportunity for learning and career advancement;
Organizational culture had significantly influenced the effectiveness of managing the emerging
workforce in the bank. Finally based on the results of the study concluding remarks as well as
ways forward were drawn.
