Abstract
The purpose of this study was to understand and assess th e linkage of public Tec hnical Education
and Training (rVET) Colleges with th e [n dus liy in Addis Ababa City Administration To conduct
this research, descriptive s urvey method was employed. Th e primmy s ources of data were 10
college deans , 32 department heads, 4 7 senior instructors, 6 vocational counselors 6 program
coordinator s, and 3 TVET Agency core process owners. Simple random sa mpling was used to
select respondent s of senior inS lr uctors and Pwposi ve sa mpling was employed to seleci
respondents of all other groups. Likewise, th e collected data we re analyzed quantilalively by using
descriplive and inferential stat istics, and qualitalively by using descriptive narration
Questionnaires were the main data gathering instrumenlS while interview and document analysis
were employed 10 enrich the data gathered Ihrou gh questionnaires. The finding of the study
mirrors that th e linkage be tw een public TVET coll eges and the indus try is loose and TVET
co lleges are not in a position of applying linking mechanisms like deve loping collaborative

Moreover, ther e was an implementalion bottleneck with respect to divers~fication of Training
modality. Thus, evening class was the mo st Fequently utilized mode of delivelyfor trainees who
are day shift workers of th e industries. Siudies conducted to know th e sat is/action level of the
indus try as a result of the TVE T outpUi and Ih e current slat us of graduates were not successfiilly
carried out by most sampled TVET Colleges. As (f r es llll , Ih e curr el1l sial us of linkage between
TVET and industlY in Addis A ba ba City Administration was found to be not prom isin g. Thus,
TVET colleges have 10 loo k criti cally Ihe issue of linkage since there is a se rious risk as il ge lS
loose in addressing th e relevance of the lrain ing Ihey provide. How eve r f or successfitl TIIln~
