Abstract
Irregularities are not avoidable in the architectural design of building; however, the behavior of structures with these irregularities during earthquake needs to be studied especially for a structure with base isolation.
Buildings with plan irregularity behave differently as compared to regular buildings with base isolation. The influence of plan irregularity is examined for a ten-story reinforced concrete office building which composes of different plan configurations and support conditions (Nonlinear Supports and building with fixed support) when it is subjected to seismic loading. To compare the responses of the irregular base isolated, structure a regular structure is also considered. For seismic analysis of building time history analysis was carried out.
The structure consists of beams and columns with reinforced concrete slabs and isolated system supported provided. The analysis was done by using structural analysis software program ETABS 2015. Even though there are different types of base isolators lead rubber bearing was used as a Nonlinear Support. The structural response of the sample system is investigated hereafter with reference to the following performance parameters: Storey displacement, story acceleration, and natural period, base shear of the structure.
