Abstract
In this study, the prevailing challenges and opportunities of e-marketplace
development in Ethiopia were addressed. with regard to this, assessing the
existing challenges and opportunities of e-marketplaces is the most important
theme of the study. data were collected through questionnaires from a sample
of four companies operating in e-marketplaces and a total of 408 sample
internet users. Various challenges of e-marketplaces were found during the study at eenvironment,
societal, business and consumer levels. despite these challenges
in the operations of e-marketplaces in the country, there is a potential market
for business firms
Based on the findings of the study, devising governmental poliCies and legal
framework, extensive education campaigns and promotional activities to create
awareness of e-marketplaces are among the most important recommendations
forwarded
