Abstract

The main objective of this study is to investigate major factors affecting the quality of TVET program. The study was aimed at some aspects the quality of the program at input and process level. Descriptive survey method was employed to carry out the study. Four TVET institutes namely Soddo, Hawwasa, Ambo and Nekampte were selected from Oromia and SNNP regions purposely and the top managements, instructors alld students of each institute were selected by stratified sampling techniques. The study was carried out by employing closed-ended questionnaires addressing issues related to input and process aspects of the program. In this case, institutional managements, educational facilities, streaming process of students to TVET program, the teaching- learning process and students' performance evaluation, competences of instructors and students; and institutional quality assurances practices were the major study area thoroughly emphasized. These variables were analyzed with ANOVA, t-test and chi-square tests. The results of the study indicate that lack of relevant training facilities and the poor quality of students joining TVET are the most significant factors affecting the quality of program. Instructors' incompetence 's, lack of policy and associate procedures, institutional management incompetence are considered as moderately affecting the quality of TVET program.
