Abstract
The aim of this research is to assess the effectiveness of GBV projects in combating violence against women in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. In order to conduct this study, a project from AWSAD was considered. In addition, one of AWSAD’s shelters was approached. The research is descriptive and mostly qualitative in nature. Four respondents from AWSAD’s head office and ten women and children from the shelter were selected for semi structured interviews. In both qualitative and quantitative data analysis, the results have been presented and analyzed. It was found that combating GBV through prevention and response has been successful in reducing violence against women. It has been concluded and recommended that, even though the project has showed promising figures and feedbacks from project beneficiaries, more needs to be done to both prevent and respond to GBV.
