Gender Power Relations in Reproductive Decision-Making: The Case of Migrant Weavers of Addis Ababa

Abstract

Reproductive decision-making is strongly associated with gender power relatiolls be/ween couples. To allain Ihe .Ipeci/ied objectives, the sludy used bOlh quanlilative and qualitalive daw. The quan.litalive daw was collecled by using structured questionllaire from 317 married couples, whereas the qualitative dara was collected from six women and three men key ir~rormaJ1's. Simple descriptive slC/lislies and l11ullinomiallogislic regression analysis were used to de/ermine factors !lWl i1~/lllell ce reproductive decision-making. Accordingly, aboul 34% and 30% of women an.d 17.7% and 45.1 % of men had womell-centered and joint conlraceplive use decision -making altitude, respectively. Besides, 22.1% and 32.6% of women; alld 4.2% and 91.7% of lllen reported thallhey made Ihe contraceplive /lse decision by Iheir OIVI1 and jointly with Ih eir spouses, respectively.
