Metal complexes of Ni (II) and Cu (II) with Schiff base 2,4-DHBPAM derived from the condensation of 2,4-dihydroxy benzophenone with hydrazine have been synthesized and characterized on the basis of elemental analyses, infrared studies, molar conductance, magnetic susceptibility measurements, and UV-Vis spectroscopy. The Schiff base ligand acts as a tetradentate coordinating through the oxygen atom of the deprotonated phenolic group and the nitrogen atom of azomethine group. This is confirmed by IR spectral data. The analysis of magnetic susceptibility and UV-Vis spectral data indicate octahedral geometry for the Cu (II) and Ni (II) complexes. Similar synthesis and characterization have been done for Ni (II) and Co (II) complexes derived from 2-hydroxyl-4-methoxybenzophenone and hydrazine using template method under different reflux time. The ligand in these complexes acts as tetradentate coordinates through oxygen atom of the deprotonated phenolic group and the terminal nitrogen of hydrazone which is supported by the IR spectral data.en_US
