Influence of Monitoring and Evaluation Practices on the Performance of Grade One Building Construction Company’s Projects in Addis Ababa

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to assess the influence of building contractors' monitoring and evaluation practices on project performance. The research is intended to help and support construction practitioners in better implementing M&E practices to improve project performance. As a result, a three-section questionnaire was produced and distributed to assess the presence of M&E practices and their level of influence on project performance, as well as what exactly is meant by project performance. For data analysis, SPSS software was utilized. As a result, the M& E practices must be determined, and those that have the greatest impact on project performance. The broad aim of this study was to ascertain the influence of the practices of monitoring and evaluation on the performance of building construction projects. The specific aims of this research were to determine the influence of M&E Policy, M&E planning, M&E resource and M&E process on performance of building construction companies in Addis Ababa. The target population for this study was126 respondents (2 persons for each company). A total number of 126 respondents were targeted. 95 respondents returned their data. The study found out that M&E practices and its adoption significantly influences the project performance Based on the findings from this study, all correlation showed that independent variables (M&E planning, M&E resource and M&E process) as mandatory practices influences building construction projects performance thus the study recommended that M&E practices should be embraced in projects management. The study concluded on the basis of findings reveals that M&E practices have positive impacts on projects performance in building construction companies. The results from the study contributes to solving various projects M&E constraints that companies go through in implementation of their projects.The study recommends establishment of strategic frame work to define internal process of carrying out M & E, strengthening organizational M & E capacity, and management participation is critical for project success.
