dc.description.abstractThepurposeofthisstudywastoinvestigateperceptionsandpracticesofactivelearning,toassesshowtheperceptionsofteachersandstudentsinfluencetheirpracticesofactivelearningandtoidentifyfactorsaffecting the implementation ofactivelearning. To conductthe study,qualitative methodwasemployed.The studywasconductedin Senbete General Secondary and Preparatory schooland the data werecollectedfrom60 studentsand6 teachersofthe school. In the selection ofthe sample population purposive and systematicsamplingwereused.The maininstrumentofdata collectionwas.The datawereanalyzedusingpercentage,meanandgrandmean.The findingsofthestudyrevealedthatthemainimplementersofactivelearning(teachersandstudents)havepereceivedactivelearningpositively.Inspiteoftheirgoodperceptions,theirpracticesfactivelearningwerelow.Amongthefactoraffectingtheeffectiveimplementationofactivelearning;teachers’andstudents’tendencytotraditional/lecturemethod,lackofstudent’sinterest,shortageoftime,lackofinstructionalmaterialandlargeclasssizewerethemajorones.Finally,recommendationswereforwardedbasedonthemajorfindingssoasto minimizeproblemsencountered andmaximizethe implementationofactivelearning.
