Abstract

Building Information Modeling (BIM) presents transformative opportunities in the global construction industry, yet its integration, especially in diverse contexts like Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, remains challenging. This research investigates how BIM can converge with project management success factors to facilitate adoption and diffusion in Addis Ababa's construction industry. Employing a mixed-methods approach including qualitative interviews, surveys, and case studies, insights will be gathered from various stakeholders. By analyzing socio-cultural, economic, and institutional dynamics, the study aims to understand barriers and enablers to BIM integration. Synthesizing empirical findings with project management and innovation diffusion literature, the research seeks to develop practical recommendations to enhance BIM utilization. Key findings suggest that organizational readiness, technological infrastructure, financial considerations, and industry associations significantly influence BIM adoption. However, traditional project success metrics hinder implementation, indicating conflicts within existing frameworks. Cultural attitudes and government policies require further investigation. Strategic initiatives are proposed to promote BIM diffusion: enhancing organizational readiness, investing in infrastructure, providing financial support, fostering collaboration, and nurturing innovation. These efforts, coupled with supportive policies and pilot projects, aim to drive efficiency, collaboration, and innovation in Addis Ababa's construction sector.
