Abstract
This paper presents an assessment of social responsibility in selected leather
processing firms in Add is Ababa prompted by the need to understand its paramount
importance in conducting business activities. The paper tried to assess how these
companies are discharging their social responsibility towards employees, the
environment and the local community. In order to collect data both primary and
secondary data collection tools are used. The primary data collection methods are
questionnaire and interview and the secondary data are obtained from the Internet,
different books, various related documents journals and newspapers.
The project indemnified that the industry has got a lot to do to be recognized as one
which is conducting its business in a socially responsible way especially towards
employees, environment and the society. Finally the paper recommended that the
industry should try to be more responsible to the above stake holders so as to be
competitive and survive in the business for long.
