This study was aimed to investigate the factor affecting successful implementation of project in International Nongovernmental Organizations in Ethiopia: The case of International Organization for Migration. A total of 103 structured questionnaires were distributed to employees of IOM. Primary data collection tool with explanatory research design and mixed research approach were applied. Both descriptive and inferential statistical tools were employed using SPSS (version 21). The result of descriptive analysis showed effective communication was the most important factor affecting successful project implementation followed by project manager competency and monitoring and reporting. Correlation analysis revealed that all independent variables dealt in this study had a positive relationship with successful implementation of project in IOM. Regression analysis showed that 78.3% of the variation in successful implementation of project is explained by the seven independent variables used in this study. The ANOVA test result revealed that the independent variables statistically and significantly predict the dependent variable (F=53.469, p-value = 0.000). Project manager competency had the highest (beta= 0.262) effect or contribution on successful implementation of project followed by clarity of defined scope and goals (beta= 0.248), effective planning (beta= 0.243) and project team competencies (beta= 0.204). The study concluded that out of the seven independent variables, the four (project manager competency, clarity of scope, effective project planning and project team competencies) statistically significant contribution to successful implementation of the project while the rest of the variables (monitoring and reporting, communication, and project environment) were not statistically significant. The study recommended that the study organization focus on clarity in project scope and goals, effective planning, project manager competences and project team competences in order to implement its projects successfully. Key words: Project, project success, implementation, IOM
