dc.description.abstractThe COVID-19 pandemic put dents on every sector of the affected countries, and the informal sector was no exception. This study assessed the implications of the COVID19 pandemic lockdown on the income and food security status of households engaged in the informal sector in Wereda-7 Gulele Sub-city Addis Ababa Ethiopia based on both quantitative and qualitative analyses of the primary data of 192 informal workers to shed light on the impact of the pandemic lockdown induced economic crisis on this working class. The survey was conducted between 2021 and 2022.The analysis points out that about eighty-seven percent of these workers faced an income, eighty three of sampled households drop there monthly food expenditure and totally eighty-nine percent of respondents were food insecure the result of COVID 19 lockdown. The effect was higher in males and respondents engaged in services and sales also in widowed households. The findings suggest that policy support is needed for the informal workers to face such a crisis
