The general objective of this study is to examine the practice of project monitoring and evaluation in the Ensaro Wayu Rural Livelihood Improvement project. The study employed both quantitative and qualitative research approaches to achieve the intended objectives. Both primary and secondary data types were used to collect data from project desk officers, government body officials, planning, monitoring and evaluation department head and funding partners (donors) representatives using questionnaire, interview, and document review. The research design was descriptive and used census for target population. Questionnaires was distributed to sixty two respondents (while forty four returned and two were totally rejected) who participate in the process of monitoring and evaluation directly from the organization and indirectly as co-signatories for the project from donors side and government offices. Data analysis was done using SPSS software Version 21 for frequency, percentages, mean and standard deviation along with Microsoft Excel 2010, while the data acquired from interview was analyzed qualitatively. The findings of this study revealed that, more than half of respondents assured lack of sufficient budget as the major challenges encountered during monitoring and evaluation and in addition to this; donors different monitoring and evaluation reporting formats, lack of feedback were the other challenges. This study in general shows the project was not well organized (not satisfactory) as expected in practicing monitoring and evaluation. The implication of these findings is that there is a critical need to enhance the capacity of the organization’s management and relevant stakeholders in areas of monitoring and evaluation. The suggested solutions for the challenges contains allocate adequate budget, design monitoring and evaluation early with planning stage, strengthen the documentation with modern technology and train all management staffs for project monitoring and evaluation activities. It is recommended that there should be at full scale engagement while conducting monitoring and evaluation activitiesen_US
