dc.description.abstractThe main objective oj thi study was to assess the extent oj HIVIAIDS integration in primary school second cycle (grades 5-8) to the specific reJerence oj Addis A baba. Quantitative research approach was mainly employed to achieve the intended objective oj the study. Four carrier subject experts oj ICDR (J male), AACAEB (2 males) and MOE (1 male) and student's text and syllabus were selected as sample oj the study through purposive sampling .Accordingly Jrom social science carrier subjects, Civic and Ethical Education texts and syllabuses oj grades 5-8, and from natural science subjects Basic Integrated science oj grades 5 and 6 and Biology oj grades 7 and texts and syllabuses were selected as sources of iJ?(onnalion of the study. In addition, 1 biology and basic integrated science expert from 1 'DR. 2 experts (I biology and 1 social studies) Jrom AACAEB and 1 civic expert from MOE were selected as sources oj data. Data collection instruments mainly content analysis and semi- structured interview as supplementary oj content analysis were used. The data collected through content analysis was analyzed through quantitative re earch approach by using tables and percentage. Moreover, data obtained Jrom interview was also described and discussed qualitatively. The findings confirmed that HIVIAIDS education was integrated comprehensively (containing knowledge, attitude and skill based inJormation about HIVIAIDS) in natural science subjects by Jar in a better coverage than in social science sample subject i.e. civic and ethical education. On the basis oj the findings, it was suggested that curriculum experts of civic and ethical education require to reconsider the already integrated HIVIAIDS issues and revise to integrate comprehensive HIVIAIDS issues sufficiently which would enable students to protect them selves from risk oj the disease rather than emphasizing mainly on knowledge based in/ormation that dominantly concentrated on impact and distribution oj the pandemic. Furthermore, it was also recommended that there should be social mobilization and coordinated efforts oj different sectors oj institutions (MaR and HAPCO) and various NGOs working on fighting against the disease and anti-RIVIAIDS clubs established in schoolsen_US
