Assessment of Job Satisfaction and Associated Factors Among Graduated Masters in Emergency and Critical Care Nurses Who are Working in all Over Ethiopia, 2020.

Abstract

Background: - Job satisfaction of nurses is the most critical factor that affects the outcome of patient care. Without job satisfaction, every activity which is done for patients is not attractive. Furthermore icreates a conflict between the health care personnel and patient relatives. Especially nurses are front line just like to such problem. Motivated and satisfied health professional /nurses should be present to deliver quality care for patient needs. Objective; - To assess job satisfaction and associated factors of nurses graduated in Emergency medicine and critical care working in health institution of Ethiopia. Methodology: - Descriptive cross sectional survey based study was conducted using structured nurse’s job satisfaction questionnaire and role performance check list data collection methods. The data were collected by, Email, and Telegram from all graduate MSc, EMCCN through Google document link thawas submitted direct on line. The data were collected from March 20 /2020- May 26/2020. After data collected, it was edited and sorted by Excel and exported to SPSS version 25 software for analysis. The descriptive results were presented with frequency distribution tables, graphs and its association were analyzed by binary logistic regression model along with the significant value of (p<0.05) each independent variable. Result: out of 129 participants, 111 were actively give response with response rate of 86.03%. From those respondents 44 (39.6%) [95% CI: 29.8, 50.2] of emergency professionals had good job satisfaction with overall mean satisfaction of 71.7207 (SD±22.98) [95% CI: 67.7337, 75.7033]. Being academician 49.5% more likely [AOR = 56.24: 95% CI: (4.220-749.474)], autonomously perform theiwork [AOR =33.12 (1.701, 645.22)]. , good relation and friendship communication with staff [AOR= 8.322: 95% CI: (1.957-5.311)] and appropriately perform roles in work [AOR= 13.69: 95% CI: (1.954- 95.97)] had good job satisfaction. Conclusion and Recommendation: overall job satisfaction of emergency nurse professionals is below 50%. This is dangerous to health workforce management. Being academician, having autonomy in work, having good relation and friendship communication with staff and good role performance were the determinant factors that enhance job satisfaction. I recommend ministry of health to amend the working system of emergency professionals.
